Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis of the knee is characterized by the progressive loss of cartilage in the knee joint, a natural cushioning between bones. This degenerative condition leads to changes not only in the cartilage but also in the bones themselves, often resulting in pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. It can affect one or both knees and is more common in older individuals.
Knee Ligament Injuries
Knee ligament injuries involve damage to one of the four main ligaments in the knee: the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), medial collateral ligament (MCL), or lateral collateral ligament (LCL). These injuries can also include meniscal tears, which affect the cartilage that acts as a shock absorber between your shinbone and thighbone. Such injuries can result from sports, accidents, or sudden movements.
Lumbar Disc Bulge
A lumbar disc bulge occurs when a disc in the lower spine extends beyond its normal perimeter in the vertebral column. This condition can lead to pressure on spinal nerves, resulting in pain that may extend to the buttocks, legs, and feet. It's often associated with aging but can also result from strain or injury.
Sciatica
Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg. Typically, sciatica affects only one side of the body and is often caused by a herniated disc or bone spur compressing part of the nerve.
Cervical Disc Bulge
Similar to a lumbar disc bulge, a cervical disc bulge occurs in the neck region of the spine. This condition involves the displacement of disc material beyond its normal space, which can impinge on nearby nerves or the spinal cord itself, leading to neck pain, stiffness, and symptoms that may radiate into the arms and hands.
Cervical/Lumbar Spondylosis
Cervical and lumbar spondylosis are terms used to describe the age-related wear and tear affecting the spinal disks in the neck and lower back, respectively. This degeneration can lead to a reduction in the space between vertebrae, bone spurs, and other changes that may compress spinal nerves or the spinal cord.
Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a condition marked by weakened bones that are more prone to fracture. It occurs when the creation of new bone doesn't keep up with the removal of old bone. Osteoporosis affects all bones in the body but is most detrimental when it leads to fractures in the hip, wrist, or spine, which can have serious consequences.
